IRC 2021 - See you in 2022!

If 2021 was a normal year, we would be meeting at the DKT/IRC in Nuremberg this week: the meeting place of the rubber and elastomer industry.

The Elastomer Guideline published in 2011 by the Umweltbundesamt (UBA), Germany’s federal environmental agency, decides which input materials can be used for the manufacture of elastomers in accordance with the principles of the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA). The transition period for the Elastomer Guideline ends on 31/12/2023. Numerous sulphur cross-linked compounds currently in use in drinking water applications can no longer be used after that time.

Innovative and efficient solution for the drinking water market: KRAIBURG Pure.

This series of EPDM compounds for cold and warm water applications does not only consists entirely of raw materials that will still be allowed after 2021, but also fully satisfies the mechanical requirements for compounds used in drinking water applications (based on EN 681-1).

Since it was brought onto the market, the compound series has held various certificates which confirm that it is suitable for use in the drinking water sector (W270 or EN 16421 and UBA-ELL).


KRAIBURG LEP is a film for protection against erosion damage to the leading edges of the rotor blades of wind turbines. A quality product which has been developed over the past years and tailored to the requirements of an innovative, highly technical industry.

Sector and area of use: Wind power generation Onshore and Offshore

KRAIBURG LEP characterized by long-term erosion protection of the blade leading edge of wind turbines while at the same time offering UV protection of the erosion protection film and ease of use during application. The long-term reliability with a high dynamic durability results in low maintenance and repair costs for the plants. As our material is especially suitable for use in extreme conditions, customers benefit from KRAIBURG LEP in both onshore and offshore sectors.


KRAIBON® is integrated directly into the layer structure in the manufacturing process which is typical of fibre composite. No additional bonding agents are required since this property is introduced directly in the formulas. KRAIBON® has inherent adhesiveness (tack) and, after warming, can easily be draped.

The elastomer cures under the same manufacturing conditions as thermosetting resin systems and forms a permanently stable chemical bond with the matrix. No additional processing steps are required. The result is an alternately hard and soft composite material which combines the positive properties of fibre-reinforced plastics and elastomers.

Areas of application

The KRAIBON® products are designed for use in fibre composite and hybrid components. The focus here is on acoustics, splinter protection, energy absorption and the constructive combination of various material classes.

Antibacterial Elastomer Compounds

Antibacterial surfaces prevent the formation, development, and transfer of bacteria, mould and spores. The use of certain antibacterial active ingredients damages the cell membranes, thus interrupting the functions of the germs and preventing their proliferation.

Customer-specific antibacterial solutions

Gummiwerk KRAIBURG is developing the antibacterial compounds for various types of polymer in the hardness range of 30-90 ShA. The main applications are materials and objects which come into contact with the human body. In busy public areas with additional hygiene requirements, these could be controls, handrails, handles and door handles, blinds and seals, for instance.
