Gummiwerk KRAIBURG announces its DIN EN 682‑certified NBR compounds for gas applications now fully meet the stringent Type GBL standard

Gummiwerk KRAIBURG has successfully brought its entire portfolio of DIN EN 682-certified NBR compounds for gas applications under the demanding Type GBL classification. This ensures that the full series of certified compounds, with hardness ranges from 60 to 93 Shore A, now meets the stringent requirements for resistance to gaseous fuels and liquid hydrocarbons.

Extended operating temperature ranges according to DIN EN 682 Type GBL

While the previously used Type GA under DIN EN 682 (93 ShA) was approved for service temperatures between -5 °C and +50 °C, Type GBL extends this certified operating temperature to -15 °C to +50 °C. This ensures proven operational reliability even in low-temperature environments and in cold-weather conditions – without making claims about the materials actual thermal resistance.

DIN EN 682 – Requirements for materials used in supply lines

The DIN EN 682 standard defines the requirements for elastomeric materials used in seals for gas supply pipelines and their components. It specifies the permissible operating temperature ranges for these applications, which vary depending on the type. Type GA is approved for gaseous fuels between -5 °C and +50 °C, while Type GAL extends this range down to -15 °C. Type GB is suitable for liquid hydrocarbons and gaseous fuels from -5 °C to +50 °C and Type GBL covers both media within the extended range of -15 °C to +50 °C. Type H is intended for aromatic liquid hydrocarbons and gaseous fuels with condensates within the -5 °C to +50 °C range.

These temperature specifications represent normative limits for certified use and do not reflect actual material performance limits. Instead, they specify the certified and thus approved operating temperature range of the compounds. Certification according to DIN EN 682 Type GBL by an independent, accredited testing institute, along with positive results from standardized tests (volume change, compression set, aging), confirm the compounds’ suitability for use with gaseous fuels and liquid hydrocarbons. The corresponding registration number can be found on the DVGW Cert website.

By achieving Type GBL certification for its entire DIN EN 682-certified NBR compounds for the gas sector, Gummiwerk KRAIBURG ensures reliable functionality even under demanding climatic conditions and in challenging applications use cases – fully in line with industry standards and regulatory requirements.
