food

The food industry is a diverse and challenging environment. The variety of products and the use of numerous flavors can have different effects on elastomer components. For example, acids, alkalis or alcohols can affect material properties. Mechanical stress from frequent product changes and cleaning cycles is also a challenge. To meet these demanding requirements and ensure food safety, we offer a portfolio of elastomer compounds specifically developed for the food sector.

Our well-assorted portfolio for the food industry: Elastomer compounds for high demands

In Germany, products based on natural and synthetic rubber that come into contact with food must comply with Recommendation XXI of the German Federal Institute for Risk Assessment (BfR). This recommendation has recently been revised, particularly with regard to the risk assessment of process-related impurities. The updated Recommendation XXI is aligned with European standards.
Gummiwerk KRAIBURG has met these demanding requirements by carefully evaluating and assessing its production processes in close cooperation with an accredited testing institute.

The compounding specialist introduces a streamlined and well-assorted compound portfolio based on NR, NBR and EPDM, covering a hardness range from 35 Shore A to 85 Shore A, in response to the revised regulations. This diversified portfolio is suitable for a wide range of applications and includes both black and colored compounds.

Confirmation that the formulations comply with the underlying positive lists is the basis for successfully passing the required finished part tests in accordance with this recommendation.

Applications in which Gummiwerk KRAIBURG compounds are used:

  • Seals in lines
  • Seals for dispensing plants for the beverage industry
  • Diaphragms
  • Valves for the food industry
  • Rubber teats/calf teats for the dairy industry
  • Rubber materials and articles used in food production
  • Drive rollers for conveyor belts

“High-performance materials with high durability”

Reconciling regulatory requirements with higher productivity is never a simple matter. Applications in chemical processing require high-performance materials with important characteristics, such as resistance to various aggressive chemicals, as well as extremely high and low temperatures. The mechanical strength also plays an important role.

Applications in which KRAIBURG compounds are used:

  • Seal elements in chemical reactors
  • Pumps in waste management plants
  • Sensor casings in analytical and industrial measuring technology
  • Metering elements in the chemical industry

kraibon

KRAIBON® is a thin film made of non-crosslinked natural rubber which hardens together with resin in the existing manufacturing process.

The result is a composite material that combines the best elements of fibre composite materials and elastomers. The direct integration of elastomers into the fibre reinforced plastic (FRP) layers makes it possible to create an alternating structure of hard and soft material that combines the good mechanical properties of FRP with the good “elastic” properties of the elastomer. The main areas of application are optimisation of acoustics, and impact and splintering protection.

The key advantage is the direct integration of elastomers. The ordinary production process of an FRP component remains the same – no additional bonding agents are necessary. This innovative technology is purposefully used in sectors like the automotive and sport industries, aerospace, rail vehicles and even in orthopaedics.

wasser

To ensure safety and quality in industrial and chemical process environments, manufacturers around the world rely on our extensive experience with solutions for the water and gas industry.

KRAIBURG Pure – elastomer compounds for drinking water

The quality of drinking water is subject to high legal requirements. Operators of water treatment plants are responsible for ensuring the supply security of the population and for complying with the legal framework. Changing quality of the raw water and the protection of water resources from contamination constantly present new challenges for the operators.

We offer an innovative and efficient solution for the drinking water market. This is how the compound series – KRAIBURG Pure – was created at the end of 2018, which can also be used in elastomer applications for drinking water after 2021.

Gas industry – compound generation in compliance with DVGW standards

For elastomers in the gas sector, two EN standards of the DVGW (German Technical and Scientific Association for Gas and Water) are essentially applied. EN 549 specifies the requirements for materials from which seals and diaphragms for gas appliances and systems – such as gas meters – are made. This standard prescribes tests on standardized test specimens which are made from plates of the material. In order to confirm the functional suitability of the finished part, the finished parts installed in gas appliances and systems can also be tested.

With its NBR-based compounds certified according to the standard, Gummiwerk KRAIBURG serves the common temperature classes B1 and B2 as well as the significant hardness ranges H2 and H3. We also provide a corresponding certificate according to the DIN EN 549 standard for the hardness range of 70 Shore A, which is of great importance for use in gas appliances.

The EN 682 certified and also NBR-based compounds from Gummiwerk KRAIBURG are well sorted in the hardness range between 60 Shore and 93 Shore and available for the frequently required type GA – for the 70 Shore variant also the type GBL. More information

We offer elastomer compounds based on NBR for the gas sector, which are certified according to the DIN standards EN 549 and EN 682. The certifications confirm that the compound generations meet the requirements for use in gas supply systems and in gas appliances and equipment.

Our solutions are used in the following products:

  • Components / seals in gas supply lines (EN 682) (NBR)
  • Seals / membranes (EN 549) in gas devices and systems (NBR)
  • Seals, wedges, shut-off valves in the drinking water supply (cod water, sulphur-crosslinked EPDM)
  • Components in drinking water fittings (cold and hot water, perox. EPDM)
